Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Unio / USA TODAY NETWORK It is no secret Clemson's offense has been the source of trepidation since Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Amari Rodgers, and Cornell Powell all departed for the NFL after the 2020 season. Despite that, one position group that has been the strength of an otherwise underwhelming offensive attack from 2021-2023 is running back. Clemson's running backs have been the highest graded skill position for three years in a row, and when Clemson's teams have gotten on any kind of a run during this non-playoff stretch,https://www.arizonastatesportsshop.com it has been on the backs of guys like Kobe Pace, Will Shipley, and Phil Mafah. Despite this, I'll admit that I've overestimated their impact going into the last two seasons. I had hoped last year's unit with proven commodities in Shipley and Mafah would be able to approach the 2022 TCU offense's production: 193.3 yards per game and a 3,290 yards. Clemson was at a solid 174.3 and 4.3 yards per clip. I still firmly believe that Clemson must approach the 200 yards per game mark on the ground for this team to make a real playoff run of any consequence. The Tigers return a wealth of playing experience across the offensive line and an offseason for Matt Luke to work on getting those pieces on another level. A lot of talk out of camp is that he has done just that, but we've heard talk of resurgent offensive line play in years past that didn't come close to panning out (or got derailed by multiple injuries).
